While this decision does not conclude the process, it represents the next step in a six-year regulatory journey concerning the proposed redevelopment of the existing hotel and bungalow site on Comino.
Chaired by Annabel Hili, the board now includes Winston J. Zahra, Mark Vella, and Michael J. Agius, alongside Melo Hili. The appointments bring together extensive experience in hospitality, investment, and corporate governance as the company continues advancing projects including Six Senses Comino and a boutique hotel in Valletta.
This ruling reinforces the company’s vision to create a world-class, environmentally responsible resort that enhances Malta’s tourism offering while respecting Comino’s unique landscape.
HV Hospitality takes note of the appeal filed by various NGOs, contesting the Planning Authority’s approval of the Comino hotel and bungalows.
HV Hospitality, a subsidiary of Hili Ventures, welcomes the Planning Authority’s decision to approve the Six Senses Comino project, following an extensive five-year planning and consultation process. The project will see the full redevelopment of the existing 1960s hotel and bungalows at San Niklaw Bay and Santa Marija Bay on the island of Comino.
The project involves the full redevelopment of the existing hotel and bungalow structures at San Niklaw Bay and Santa Maria Bay, which were originally built in the 1960s. Under the terms of the recommended permit, the site will remain dedicated exclusively to tourism, in line with HV Hospitality’s declared intentions and existing title deed.
HV Hospitality welcomes the decision taken by the Court of Appeal on the Comino Project this week which re-confirms the adequacy and good standing of the environmental studies carried out so far.
HV Hospitality welcomes today’s decision by the Environment and Planning Review Tribunal (EPRT). This confirms that the environmental studies carried out in relation to the project were correct.
In response to the public’s feedback, the updated plans now propose a reduction of the footprint at the bungalow site too, bringing the total reduced footprint to 8,244 sqm —equivalent to the area of around 32 tennis courts.
HV Hospitality is to hold an exhibition of its plans for the new Comino Hotel to share its conscientious vision for the project with the public at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, from April 22 to May 9, 2023.
On April 22, the exhibition opens with a presentation by lead architect Antonio Belvedere at 10.30 a.m. Entrance is free. Spaces are limited.
